Most of Mr. Kaplan's practice involves providing counseling to businesses, commercial litigation and franchise law. He has been named in 2013 as one of the very best U.S. attorneys in franchising by Franchise Times Magazine as determined by clients and peers. Professional Affiliations

An active member in the International Franchise Association and former chairman of the Chicago chapter, Mr. Kaplan speaks and moderates at local and national events. He is an active member in the American Bar Association Forum on Franchising and has published in the ABA Franchise Law Journal and the Franchise Lawyer. He also is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association.

Legal Career

Mr. Kaplan began his legal career at Wildman, Harrold, Allen & Dixon, a national law firm with approximately 200 attorneys. In 1995, he became a founding member of Becker & Kaplan LLC, a litigation boutique. In 2000, Becker & Kaplan merged its practice into Jenkens & Gilchrist, P.C., a national law firm which then had approximately 600 lawyers. Mr. Kaplan founded Kaplan & Greenswag LLC in 2003 and practiced there until 2011, after which he began practicing with Law Offices of Daniel S. Kaplan P.C.

Personal Interests

Mr. Kaplan is an avid ultramarathon runner. He has run approximately 40 ultramarathons and marathons, including many races of 100 and 50 miles and the Boston Marathon eight times. He also is on the auxiliary board of Chicago Run, a non-profit group providing running programs in Chicago elementary schools and is a pro-bono attorney for the Midwest Adoption Center.
